FixMyComputer247.com is a free library of computer repair guides, written by someone who's spent over 30 years actually fixing computers — not just writing about them.

Who We Are

This site is built and written by BigMike, a computer repair technician based in Nanaimo, British Columbia. FixMyComputer247 is a newer project — we're steadily building out a library of practical, step-by-step guides covering the problems people run into most: slow computers, malware, hardware failures, WiFi issues, and the products worth buying versus skipping.

Our Mission

A lot of computer problems get "fixed" at a shop for a price that's way more than the problem needed to cost — often because nobody explained what actually went wrong. This site exists to give people the same troubleshooting logic a technician uses, in plain language, so they can fix what they can themselves and know when it's genuinely time to call a professional.

BigMike's Background

I started learning to fix computers in 1992, the hands-on way — by causing my own problems and figuring out how to solve them. A friend and broadcast engineer named Barry taught me how to think logically about what a computer is trying to tell you and how to work with it instead of against it. Through the '90s and 2000s I fixed my own computers and friends' computers.

In 2007 I started working at a local repair shop in Nanaimo called Sneakers. That job lasted about two years, until the shop closed in late 2008. From there I took a year-long self-employment program and opened Big Mike Computer Services on January 1, 2010 — a business I still run today.

Alongside the repair business, I also work seasonally as a board operator at a local radio station during hockey season, and install and replace POS machines for TD Bank.

Why We're Different

Every guide here comes from actual repair work — not research summarized from other websites. If something's in a guide, it's because it's worked on real computers with real problems.
